Whether you’re planning to offer your home up to a foster child in need of a loving home, or have a few hours each week to commit to volunteering, there are plenty of ways to contribute to building a better community for our children. However, there is one way each and every one of us can help out that requires very little time or money: advocacy.
Make life better for a child welfare family by simply making your voice heard. ChildServ has provided a Legislative Action Center where you can follow the actions of the Illinois Legislature and contact legislative leaders to respond to issues of greatest concern to you. Simply hit the Take Advocacy Action button and follow the link to the Action Center. There, you’ll find directories of state elected officials and local government leaders (along with links you can follow to contact specific legislators), current legislation and other resources relating to child welfare family matters.
The Legislative Action Center includes a listing of legislation in the U.S. Congress, Illinois State Senate and the State Legislature relating to children and family issues, along with the Bill number and a brief summary of the bill. As a visitor to ChildServ.org are welcome to join our Action Network and be placed on our mailing list to receive ongoing updates, or to sign up for MegaVote in order to track the votes of your legislators. (Spread the word: Invite a friend in your Illinois community to sign up, or post a "Write to Congress" Web sticker on your own website.)
